Hair and Nails: The Only Things That Grow

When you are small, you tend to stay that way.  No matter how much you try and stretch and stand on your tip toes, the only thing that gets any longer is your hair and your nails. I wish the story were a little different, but sometimes I am really grateful for my quick growing hair and nails.

My nails and hair grow really quickly. My hair is ridiculously thick and grows like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes it drives me up the wall, but sometimes it is really useful to have my fast growing hair.

A few months ago I thought I would prove myself to be an adult and trim my own bangs. My roommate does it all the time and said it was fairly easy, so I figured that I could trim my bangs with no problem at all. I was a little more confident about it than I should have been.

At first I was doing really well, and thought I had everything handled, but then in my excitement I cut a section of my bangs shorter than the rest, and by the time I had everything evened out, my bangs were almost non existent. My roommates got a good laugh out of it, and I had to wear hats for a week. I know what you are thinking; "Don't you mean month?" The answer is no I mean a week.

My hair grows fast enough that after a week my hair looked decent enough to not be hidden under a hat. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough that people just thought I got a new haircut. It made for a really good joke though. Whenever my roommate was talking about cutting her hair, I would excitedly offer to help her, and we would end up laughing, because we both knew that it was better for me not to ever cut hair again.

My nails grow fast too, but they aren't as noticeable as my hair. I have to clip them about every week and a half or playing my guitar almost becomes impossible, because my long nails get in the way. They are really pretty when they are long, unfortunately I am not so gentle with them, so they get chipped all the time, so I have to cut them down to keep them looking decent.

If you are short and feel like you never really grow, just remember that your hair and nails will always grow. It may not be rapidly or in a hugely noticeable way, but they grow. Sometimes the fact that they do grow is more important that any height that you could be if you were able to grow taller.
